The Depth of The Ocean

I traveled to the depths of the ocean

to hear from you again

And when I hit

the dusty volcanic sediment floor

There was nothing to be found

No pearls

Or shipwrecks

I thought I might see

Tall tales

that those who have looked for

lost civilizations

Spanish golden coins

You and I both know

You were my Atlantis

and no matter how much I swim

or how dark the water gets

When my ears pop

You are something

that does not want to be recovered

So I make my way back

I am still holding my breath

panicking to reach

the light

I know once I get there

the only consolation will be

the shoreline
